Pet Cancer Awareness Month

Pet Cancer Awareness Month

According to the Animal Cancer Foundation, one in four dogs and one in five cats will develop cancer at some point in their lifetime. Cancer is the number one natural cause of death in senior cats and dogs. Many pet cancers can be successfully treated if caught early. The following are common signs of cancer in pets:

  • Growing lumps or sores that fail to heal
  • Changes in appetite and weight loss

  • Difficulty breathing, urinating, or defecating

  • Bleeding or discharge from any bodily opening

  • A sudden change in willingness to exercise

  • Offensive odors coming from a pet

  • Difficulty swallowing or chewing

If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian immediately. By regularly monitoring your pets for the occurrence of the above mentioned symptoms as well as taking your pet for regular visits to your veterinarian, you can help your pet increase their likelihood at beating cancer.
